Virginia Backcountry Cabins in Monterey, VA! Our 10 uniquely-themed cabins sit on 135 acres of private land and are surrounded by miles of national forest. Our property features a number of amenities to make your stay complete including a continental breakfast, a sauna, charcoal BBQs, picnic tables, hiking trails, and hammocks hung by our spring-fed creek.
Our beautiful Virginia cabins are a part of our broader Highland County community. We are close to many of the area's best restaurants and attractions, and always offer a space for good conversation and storytelling.
From the minds of dreamers who desired to leave city and corporate life behind, Jeff and Holly welcome you into our forest world. We stepped onto this property in 2024 and knew right away we had found magic in the Allegheny Highlands. With a mile-long creek, fern glades and a shaded hollow, we each saw the future and took off full-sprint down the path of insanity. What followed was an outpouring of support and belief in our dream, which we happily share with you.
About Us
Each of our cabins include comfortable furnishings, electricity, a microwave and mini fridge, and tons of personality. With a selection of unique themes that range from motorcycles to music, guests can choose the cabin that will bring the best energy to their getaway.
Though our cabins don't have plumbing, we do have beautiful and well-maintained bathhouses located throughout the property.

Our beautiful property in Highland County, VA has everything you need for a fun and happy getaway. Guests can relax in the chairs or hammocks by the creek, wander through our many hiking trails, unwind in our wood-fired sauna, or grill up a family meal on our charcoal BBQs.

Expect ADVENTURE in Highland County and unique and well-designed glamp camping at Backcountry Cabins.
Holly and Jeff are the real deal if you want genuine hardworking creative hosts and great experienced story telling.
The cabins are cozy and comfortable!!!!. For us, the bath house accommodated that nice hot shower after a long, beautiful hike in the surrounding area.
You can pick a theme cabin to fit your visit persona….(and want to revisit to try another!)
And Misfits will probably want to make a pilgrimage to Backcountry Cabins at least once annually!!

We were staying at the motorcycle arcade cabin after a skiing trip as a storm was coming through to the east coast. Jeff and Holly were great hosts inviting us (and some other visitors too) for dinner at their place as most of the restaurants had closed that night. Holly ended up making me a grilled cheese sandwich which was one of the best grilled cheese sandwiches I have had. The restrooms were clean, serving hot water and having just about everything a restroom needs. We ended up checking out in a couple of hours but our short stay was worth it. I hope to visit sometime soon and explore the area for a bit longer than an unplanned exit. Also we had a cool dog welcome us and I wish I remembered his name!

My son and I recenlty rented the Motorcycle Cabin. This is one of those special places that you hate to tell others about because you want to keep it a secret. The cabins are brand new and are decorated with style and creativity, each with its own theme. Our cabin was stocked with all the amenities, including sitting blankets, mini-fridge, microwave, kettle, mugs, and much more. This is luxury on a small scale - like a room in your friends' cool new cabin. Owners Jeff and Holly could not have been more accomodating and friendly (as are their dogs). We look forward to returning to check out the sauna and other planned amenities.
